Snow Depot 666 (2023, 22mins)single-channel video, four channel audioglass, steel, pvc truck tarp, glacier protection felt GLS 340

&#60;img width="1024" height="795" width_o="1024" height_o="795" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/46eeb6ae425e9e7fee6ae4e8bfdeb26076879c1f6fec05d405fecc5913f020e7/Original-Print_.png" data-mid="187645427" border="0" data-scale="78" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/46eeb6ae425e9e7fee6ae4e8bfdeb26076879c1f6fec05d405fecc5913f020e7/Original-Print_.png" /&#62;
“On the morning of December 28, 1560, people in Germany and Switzerland woke to the unexpected appearance of ‘sky fires’. Drastic weather changes and the onset of the Little Ice Age had drawn the Northern Lights far south into the Alps making the deeply religious population see dragons&#38;nbsp;and&#38;nbsp;devil&#38;nbsp;figures flying through the burning night sky. Their apocalyoptic visions once captured in handcolored wood block prints set the scene for this extraordinary 22mins video and sound installation.
Bloching weaves this history&#38;nbsp;into&#38;nbsp;the contemporary&#38;nbsp;portrait of the practice of snow farming&#38;nbsp;surrounding a glacier in a high Alpine skiing resort. Snow guns, technically produced clouds of ice crystals and glaciers covered in specialist tarp to protect the snow from melting in the summer heat not only seem to perform the logic of asset production and the techno-saviourism of our times&#38;nbsp;but echo the history of apocalyptic visions among Alpine populations during the 1560s. Layering past and present dreams and nightmares of Alpine winter landscape, Snow Depot 666 traces the history of Christian apocalyptic imagination within present adaptation to ecological crisis.”

what current is under the sea embarks from a silent encounter with the American minimalist poet Robert Lax and travels into natures curious polyphony of movements. A sound and moving image poem in search for 'living stillness'.

&#60;img width="1920" height="1080" width_o="1920" height_o="1080" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/955d38a618ec7637de583e6cfcf53063598321b323decf0195c7aaf87a1924aa/Still-2.jpg" data-mid="185142658" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/955d38a618ec7637de583e6cfcf53063598321b323decf0195c7aaf87a1924aa/Still-2.jpg" /&#62;

From 2019 to 2020 I was doing fieldwork among Quaker communities in London, being fascinated by the ways Quakers actively shape experiences of collective silence during their meetings of worship. It left me with a curiosity about how notions of silence, emptiness or void have been employed by art and spiritual practitioners throughout history as portals into often unpredictable forms of presence. what current is under the sea draws on the works of three figures who had their very own practice and thoughts on silence and stillness: Franz Kafka, the composer Morton Feldman and his contemporary Robert Lax, the great American minimalist poet. During the 1990s, Robert Lax was portrayed by filmmaker Nicolas Humbert, who together with his camera met up with Lax for sessions of shared silence – ‘silent improvisations’ – an extract of which Nicolas kindly allowed me to use.

		<description>LONDON IN SILENCE2018, 11 mins
“3 am is eternal. 3 am is infernal. It´s the time at which fear and sadness and regret rack up so that it becomes impossible to get to sleep. 3 am is the dark heart of the city, when the silent night amplifies the din in our skulls, returns us to a primal solitude.” (Sukhdev Sandhu 2007)

"London in Silence" explores the moment in which 'the better version of oneself' crumbles. A slowly flowing substance makes its way - from the inner worlds of callers into their telephones, through London´s cable network towards the speaker of one the volunteers of the wellbeing hotline Nightline. "Often though callers stay on the line for over a quarter of an hour without saying a word. But silence is not silent." A late night encounter with a listener on the other side of a "London in Silence”.
